My Rating: ★★★★☆

My Review/thoughts:

Set in a very clever, adventurous and futuristic world, Ben Sears introduces an odd duo in Night Air: Plus Man and his robot sidekick named Hank. After Plus Man and Hank are given a tip on where to score valuable alloy, they are determined to locate the treasure. The one thing they have to go through to get to this treasure, however, is a very haunted castle. Very reminiscent of Hayao Miyazaki’s works, Night Air is full of both intriguing and mysterious characters, an elaborate world with magical elements, and a plot that leaves you wanting more. (more…)

My Rating: ★★★★

My Review/thoughts:

The Kingdom of Falmoor—where both good and evil creatures lurk—is not the safest place for any set of twins to be born. All twins born in the Kingdom of Falmoor are doomed to be separated from each other, one way or another. Enter four-year-old Asher Caine. Asher mysteriously vanishes in the woods one day while playing with his twin sister Ariana. Eventually, after years and years of searching with no luck, Asher’s family couldn’t do any more than believe he is no longer alive. Ariana, however, even after nine years later, believes in her heart that her brother is still very much alive. And the only way to lift the curse of evil from the Kingdom of Falmoor is to find her twin brother. Elora of Stone perfectly combines fantastical magic elements with the very realistic magic that comes from a strong bond within a family. Review: Snow White: A Graphic Novel by Matt Phelan

Snow White: A Graphic Novel by Matt Phelan

My Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5)

My Review/thoughts:

This graphic novel successfully retells a classic fairy tale story like I’ve never read before. The story takes place in New York in the year 1928, during the pre-Depression era where the glitz and glam of show business is apparent and booming. It is your typical Snow White story where an evil stepmother enters a young girl’s—little Snow White’s—life and makes it no more or less miserable. Except Matt Phelan has added his own twist and character to the classic Snow White that comes to life within the pages. This made my reading experience—although short—a rather enjoyable one.  (more…)

Look Out for the Fitzgerald-Trouts by Esta Spalding

My Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5/5)

My Review/thoughts:

The Fitzgerald-Trouts are four loosely related children with two different mothers and two different fathers. Their family tree will have you wanting to draw a diagram to try to figure out and understand just how these children are related. Not only is their family tree complicated, their situation as a whole is even more mind boggling. Set in a lush tropical island, the Fitzgerald-Trouts were abandoned by all four parents to mostly fend for their own selves with only a car to call their “home.” Throughout the entire book, (more…)

Diary of Anna the Girl Witch 1: Foundling Witch (Volume 1) by Max Candee

Synopsis from Goodreads:

Set in the Swiss countryside, “Diary of Anna the Girl Witch” blends ancient folklore with a classic coming of age tale about a young witch on the brink of womanhood.

Anna Sophia has always known she was different. She just didn’t know how different until now. On the eve of her 13th birthday — in the orphanage where she’s spent most of her childhood — Anna wonders about her past. She never knew her parents, doesn’t even know where she came from. All she has to go by is an unbelievable fairy tale her uncle used to tell: that she was found as a baby, tucked among a pack of bear cubs in the wilds of Russia.
