My Review/thoughts:

*Warning: review will contain explicit and sexual matters that may be NSFW*

The Girl in 6E is a hot and steamy thriller. Deanna hasn’t left her apartment or had had any physical interaction with another human being in three years. This being because she’s afraid that once she’s allowed access to the world outside of her apartment door, she’d act on her strong lust for blood and love of death. Living a recluse life made internet her very best friend. It is where she gets all of her shopping done (from food to toiletries), and where she works 18 hours a day. Deanna works as a cam girl—which has earned her more than 6 figures in her bank account, placing her in the top 3 popular cam girls in the cam site she works for—and through this has met different varieties of both men and women. As a cam girl, she keeps her clients’ secrets confidential. As a human being, one is about to escape. “What if you hid yourself away because all you could think of was killing? And what if one girl’s life depended on you venturing into society?”

The Girl in 6E may be a hot and steamy read, but you can count on it completely being educational too. Depending on your reading preferences, this may or may not be fit for you as it is very (and I don’t say this lightly) explicit. It has very mature sexual content including but not limited to the exploration of one’s sexuality. This novel does a great job of letting its readers know that some of the things mentioned and brought up are what is normal for some people. Not only does it cover different types of sexual fetishisms including: male anal play (you may choose to believe it or not, but men DO get pleasure and reach orgasm from anal penetration by stimulation of the prostate), podophilia (or better known as “foot fetishism”), humiliation play (where one gets pleasure from one’s sexual degradation) and etc, it also provides references and even statistics. I believe that for a reader to enjoy this, they would have to be very open and comfortable with a lot of these sexual matters that they might not have known existed.

Deanna, our main character, was a very admirable character putting aside her very Dexter-like urges and thirst. She’s admirable in a way that you know she is never one to judge her clients and their “kinks” and understands that whatever her clients are into sexually is ultimately none of her business. She just does her job of being a cam girl and satisfying their needs. While I do find our main character very admirable, I did also find her to be a bit irritating at times. I couldn’t get past the way she acted as if she’s invincible. As if her thirst for blood and death is enough to carry out her fantasies to kill…without any regards to her AND her target’s size and strength (what if the person she’s up against is double her size? Double her strength? You may have the uncontrollable need to kill, but that doesn’t automatically put you at an advantage).

Other than her “I’m invincible, anyone that steps near me will die” attitude and fantasies, I still very much enjoyed this book as a whole. You would really have to be an open minded person to appreciate this book and the deeper messages that it tries to convey in between its pages. If you’ve read this and didn’t quite understand the point of it, that’s completely fine too. Some people will appreciate it, and some won’t. Personally, I enjoyed that it brought something different to the table for me. It was thought provoking and quite an eye-opener to an industry that I barely knew anything about. The note from the author was also a plus and made me appreciate what I read even more. Considering that she did do her research before perfectly executing this novel and bringing to life what it’s like to work as a cam girl. Although Deanna Madden is very much a fictional character, the author doesn’t forget to mention in her note in the end that a lot of the situations and setup of Deanna’s webcam operation are as accurate as she could portray them.

If you are looking for an erotica thriller (a genre I didn’t even know existed until this), then look no further. I read this in less than 24 hours and that’s considering I had other things to do during the day. You could easily devour this piece and move on to the next (it is a trilogy as far as I’m aware). I would give it a 5 out of 5 stars, but I truly believe that this book may not be for everybody, and I only give 5 stars to books that I would recommend to anybody, no questions asked. Therefore, I’m giving it a strong and well-deserved 4 stars! Thank you, Alessandra Torre, for bringing such a unique piece to the literary world.
