My Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5)

My Review/thoughts:

This graphic novel successfully retells a classic fairy tale story like I’ve never read before. The story takes place in New York in the year 1928, during the pre-Depression era where the glitz and glam of show business is apparent and booming. It is your typical Snow White story where an evil stepmother enters a young girl’s—little Snow White’s—life and makes it no more or less miserable. Except Matt Phelan has added his own twist and character to the classic Snow White that comes to life within the pages. This made my reading experience—although short—a rather enjoyable one.  (more…)

My Review/thoughts:

*Warning: review will contain explicit and sexual matters that may be NSFW*

The Girl in 6E is a hot and steamy thriller. Deanna hasn’t left her apartment or had had any physical interaction with another human being in three years. This being because she’s afraid that once she’s allowed access to the world outside of her apartment door, she’d act on her strong lust for blood and love of death. Living a recluse life made internet her very best friend. It is where she gets all of her shopping done (from food to toiletries), and where she works 18 hours a day. Deanna works as a cam girl—which has earned her more than 6 figures in her bank account, placing her in the top 3 popular cam girls in the cam site she works for—and through this has met different varieties of both men and women. As a cam girl, she keeps her clients’ secrets confidential. As a human being, one is about to escape. “What if you hid yourself away because all you could think of was killing? And what if one girl’s life depended on you venturing into society?” (more…)

My Rating: ★★★★☆

My Review/thoughts:

Imagine waking up one day in a hospital without any recollection of how you got there, and no sooner finding out that you are missing six weeks worth of your memory including the four weeks you had spent on a trip abroad to Italy with your best friend. All because of a car accident you were involved in. Now imagine all of this, and imagine wanting nothing more than to just have your best friend by your side to comfort you, to make you feel better and normal again…but then imagine, after all the trauma you had supposedly already been through, hearing the news that your best friend was in that car accident with you and you were the only one who had made it out alive. Not only is your one and only best friend now gone, you are also faced with the problem that the car accident may not be an accident after all. This was the new complicated reality in the life of Miss Jill Charron, the 18-year-old main character of a very gripping novel, With Malice— undoubtedly inspired by the Amanda Knox trial—by Eileen Cook. Review: Look Out for the Fitzgerald-Trouts by Esta Spalding

Look Out for the Fitzgerald-Trouts by Esta Spalding

My Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5/5)

My Review/thoughts:

The Fitzgerald-Trouts are four loosely related children with two different mothers and two different fathers. Their family tree will have you wanting to draw a diagram to try to figure out and understand just how these children are related. Not only is their family tree complicated, their situation as a whole is even more mind boggling. Set in a lush tropical island, the Fitzgerald-Trouts were abandoned by all four parents to mostly fend for their own selves with only a car to call their “home.” Throughout the entire book, (more…)

My Rating: ★★★★☆

My Review/thoughts:

Bee & Puppycat is a cute, fun and quick graphic novel. Just think Finn and Jake from Adventure Time. Much like Finn and Jake, Bee and Puppycat do everything together. They are two best friends who basically live in a magical world. This alone screams and shouts adventure if you ask me.
